An Easy DIY Spring Wreath Tutorial

This article will help walk you through how to make a DIY Spring Wreath with a step by step video tutorial at the end.

I like to make a new spring wreath each spring. It’s something about making a new wreath that symbolizes a time of shift.

This diy spring wreath is exactly that; new flowers, new wreath method, new possibilities.

Why Focus On Spring So Much

Spring is special to me. Think about it, you get growth in flowers, gardens and lawns. Spring brings new outdoor activities that we couldn’t do in winter. Also, spring brings a time to reset, like spring cleaning and organizing.

If I focus on it too long, I’ll get real churchy and talk about how God has something NEW for you in your life. But I’ll stop for now. You can read all about it in the post called: “What will you allow God to spring up in you.”

From winter we get barren areas, animals hibernate, and things can look bleak. Then spring comes and we get fresh things growing, birds chirping and new life emerges.

I’ll sum up my love for spring with this:

Preparing for your DIY Spring Wreath

Before we get started on the wreath let’s gather the supplies for our spring flower wreath. I decided to reuse the frame from my spring wreath from 2024 as my base.

This provides a great base and helps cut costs when you repurpose things you already have.

Here’s the supplies you will need:

  • 14″ wreath form
  • About 15 Spring flowers and greenery (I bought these at Michaels on sale but you can get them year round from Amazon HERE)
  • Wide Ribbon – This is to wrap your wreath form. I choose Burlap
  • Floral Wire
  • Decorative Ribbon – This is to make your bow. Get some ribbon, deco mesh or tulle that matches your flowers. Here are a few pretty options.

Spring Wreath Tutorial

Start your spring flower wreath with just your wreath frame and the wide ribbon. Wrap the ribbon around the frame, until the whole frame is covered, making sure to overlap a bit each time.

Once finished, cut the ribbon (or burlap in my example) and hot glue the end to the back of the wreath.

Adding the Spring Flowers

Now it’s time to add the flowers. My wreath example, I only added flower about 60% around, but adjust as you like.

First cut the flowers so they are individual stems. Then lay them out and arrange them securing them to the wreath. (Pro Tip: The flowers may have a bit of wire in them, so you can bend them in a curve shape to flow around the wreath.)

Next, grab your flower wire (or you can use pipe cleaners) and wrap it around your grouping. If you have to do this in several sections, that’s fine too.

Keep going until you have completely laid out and grouped your flowers.

To secure it to the wreath, just take more floral wire, run the wire through the ribbon and frame and wrap it around your flowers tightly.

You can also hot glue it, but since I like to reuse materials, I opted for just floral wire. The last time I hot glued everything together it was unusable after that.

Add your greenery, cut any unnecessary stems, and the floral portion is done.

Let’s Make a Big Bow

For this spring floral wreath, I added a quick “junk wreath”, which is where you add as much or as little ribbon as you like. All different types and sizes.

Making the bow loops

Start with your widest ribbon, I chose white deco mesh. Wrap it over and over again in a rectangle, then take your floral ribbon and tie in the middle of the ribbon. It will start to look like a bow tie.

Repeat this process over and over again for as much ribbon as you have. Make sure to work from the widest ribbon to the skinniest ribbon on the top.

Gather it all together with more floral wire and leave a tail of wire on the back.

Making the bow tails

Lastly, to make the tails of the bow, grab all the same ribbon and cut about 15″ of ribbon out of each. Layer the ribbon on top of each other and gather in the middle.

Finish the tails by folding the ends in half and cutting at an angle. I call this “Fancy Tails” LOL.

Attach those tails pieces to the back of the bow.

Attach everything

Once everything is assembled, take the excess floral wire on the back of the bow and attach it to the wreath frame. Remember, you can also hot glue it on the wreath.

Finishing Touches

If you went through all the steps, you just completed your DIY Spring wreath.

As a few finishing touches, Fluff, up your bow, make sure your flowers are laying beautifully and are secure and your spring wreath is done.

Hang this beauty on your door to bring some spring life to your home and neighborhood.
