DIY Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas
From the Heart
Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching and it’s time to think about gifts for your loved ones. The older I get, the more and more I enjoy heartfelt gifts over the the mass produced items. Don’t get me wrong, your girl loves expensive bling too, but the love just radiates from handmade items from the heart. Therefore, I have created a couple of loving ideas for DIY Valentine’s Day Gifts that your loved ones are sure to enjoy.
14 Reasons I Love You
My first DIY Valentine’s Day Gift idea is a fun, heart shaped knock-out activity. It reminds me of the punch game from The Price is Right, where paper covered holes hid prizes inside. This craft has 14 spots where you will hide a reason why you love someone in each spot. It can be a countdown starting on February 1st and finishing on Valentine’s Day, or you the recipient can knock out each spot at the same time. Either way, you get 14 chances to tell someone just how much you love them.

Heart Assembly
It all starts out with arranging the toilet paper rolls in the shape of a heart. So let’s talk about toilet paper rolls for a moment. Some people think it’s gross to save used toilet paper rolls. Ok, it me, I’m some people, but I have definitely done it in the past. A great solution is just buy them online. They are called craft rolls and I bought a pack of 30 for $10.
Heart Form
Start your heart with one roll in the middle as the top point. Next, add two additional rolls on each side in and upward slant until it looks like a V. Then add four rolls down each side in a downward V, finishing the heart with one last roll as a point. Lastly, hot glue each roll together on the sides that touch.
Top and Bottom Cover
The next step is to cover the top, bottom, and sides with scrapbook paper. I chose a red heart pattern, but you can use any color combo you want for your DIY Valentine’s Day gift. Lay your heart shape on top of one sheet of paper and trace around the bottom of the heart. This will give you an outline. You are going to do this same step again on a second sheet of paper, but this time trace the top of the heart and the inside of each tube. Now, cut out both tracing, including the interior round circles on the second sheet.
Covering the sides
To cover the sides, just ease the length of a tube and cut 3 strip that width. You are going to glue the strips around the entire heart shape with a glue stick or double sided tape. (Additional tip: you could also just paint the sides with craft paint)
Add a Knock Punch
Now it’s time to add the knock out/punch out element to you DIY Valentine’s Day gift. We’re going to make this with tissue paper. Start by tracing the outside of a craft tube then fold the tissue paper over and over until you have at least four layers. Listen, let’s make it easy on ourselves and cut all 14 circles out at once 😄. Label each circle from 1-14. You can hand write these, use stickers, or print off numbers. In the template, I have the circles pre-made for you. Just print them out.
Next, cut out 14 strips from the white plain paper. Any size and width is fine because this paper will be folded. Now this is the fun part, write 14 heartfelt reasons why you love your loved one. It can be serious or fun, just make sure it’s from the heart. Fold the paper up and drop one note in each tube. Lastly, run some glue on the outside of each circle and place a numbered tissue over the circle to close it, add the “14 reasons why I love you” label from my template and you’re done. (As an extra step, You can also hot glue ribbon to the top to make it hang)
And that’s it. You’re finished! You’ve made a heartfelt Valentine’s Day gift for your loved one within an hour and for less than $25. You can’t beat that!

"I Love You Because" DIY Craft ⋆ Purple Craft Diva
February 10, 2022 at 7:48 pm[…] I say I love you to all the time, every time I hang up the phone or leave someone’s presence. Yes, I even have those moments when I accidently tell the customer service rep or the UPS driver I Love You just because I’m so used to saying it (Sorry Mr. UPS Man, I don’t love you THAT way :). But I do realize it’s harder for other’s. Actually, that’s one of the reasons why I created this series, to give people creative ways to say I Love You.
