Fascinating Finds – Summer 2019

It’s Summer.  The weather is nice and the kids are home from school.  Now is a great time to do some craft projects.  Here’s my collection of fascinating things that look fun to do in the sun.

 1. Glow in the Dark Chalk

It’s so much fun to color the driveway or sidewalk with chalk.  I have great memories of playing with chalk during the summer.  Well this chalk project is two-fold.  Kids and adults alike can have fun drawing masterpieces on the sidewalk during the day, then also see their drawings glow during the night.  How fun!  BuzzFeed has a great tutorial on how to make these glow in the dark chalk sticks.  CLICK HERE to check it out.

2. Glow in the Dark Bubbles

Now if we’re gonna talk about glow in the dark chalk, we might as well do glow in the dark bubbles too right?  The kids need something to do outside while they are checking out their glow in the dark chalk art.  I like that it’s made out of stuff you probably already have laying around the house.  There’s a great tutorial of it over at GrowingaJeweledRose.com.

3. Lawn Tic Tac Toe Game

I honestly think any game gets better when you blow it up life size.  This is the case with a giant tic tac toe game in the your yard.  One thing I’ve learned about kids from my nieces and nephews is that they have TONS of energy and you have to wear them out.  So while my eight and six year old nephew and niece love playing tic tac toe, on a beautiful day, they would much rather run around outside.  Why not combine the two.  Joann Craft Store put together a cute DIY to bring tic tac toe to life in your lawn.  Check it out here

4. I’m Bored Jar

Ultimate summer activities lists and bored Jar lists

How many times can a kid say they’re bored in one day?  It feels like a million.  One of my nieces Facetimes me almost everyday.  I wish it was because she really wanted to see me, but mostly it’s because she’s bored and she knows Auntie will talk with her.  Well I stumbled on this idea called the “Bored Jar.”  If the kids say they are bored, have them go pick an activity out the jar.  Voila.  All the ideas in the jar are things the kids like to do and are already approved.  Check out the blog over at Mum in the Madhouse about how to build your own “Bored Jar.”  The blog even has a list of ideas to add.

I also think this would be a cool gift for a bachelorette party and add “naughty” ideas to do when the couple gets bored.  But that’s for another blog at another time 🙂

5. Painting with Water

Painting with Water - an outdoor activity for toddlers and preschoolers

The last fascinating find is just too cute not to include.  If you have little tikes around, this blogger suggested to let them “paint” with water.  So Hilarious it’s actually Genius.  They really feel like they are doing something, but they are just spreading around water.  Just too cute and mess free.  Check out the Happy Holligans blog here.

Feel free to submit your own suggestions for Fascinating Finds.  I LOVE cool ideas.

Until Next Time, Stay Crafty!
