“I Love You Because” DIY Craft
Crafty ways to say I Love You
Hey crafters, as part of my DIY Valentine’s Day Gift Ideas Series, I challenged myself to create some crafts that were fun and creative ways to say I Love You. Most importantly, I wanted each craft to be usable and not just something pretty. I believe this ‘I Love You Because” craft checks all the boxes. It’s not just for Valentine’s Day either, this craft can be used all year round.
The “I Love You Because” craft is also a quick craft, taking under 10 minutes to complete. This mini dry erase easel only has four supplies and a total cost of less than $5, making this craft a no-brainer.
Just say it already
The three little words “I Love You” are so important, carry so much weight, and mean so much…all at the same time. Saying these three magical words has the power to evoke a range of spirit boosting emotions. Guess what? It’s so easy to say. It doesn’t have to be difficult or complex. Simply, if you feel love, express love. So go ahead, and just say it. Tell someone you love today that you love them. It will make their day!
I Love You Because
Supplies Needed:
- Miniature White Board (I bought mine at DollarTree. It’s called Wooden Wipe Away Board)
- Ribbon
- Permanent Marker
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
I made two versions. You can handwrite on the board or use a cutting machine like Cricut or Silhouette to cut out the saying from vinyl. See the Cricut tips below.
Assembly:
Listen, this craft is quick, I promise.
- Wipe your board with a clean dry cloth to remove any dust.
- Take the permanent marker and write at the top “Today, I Love You Because…” Make sure to leave enough room at the top for a bow.
- Next, make a bow with your ribbon. If you struggle tying a perfect ribbon, try tying it like you tie your shoes.
- Place a drop of hot glue to the center of the bow and place it at the top. I also hot glued the ends of the ribbon so that they didn’t fall down and cover the words.
- The last step is optional, you can add use a ruler and add lines to write on, or you can leave the writing space open.
That’s it, and easy, quick and heartfelt gift for your loved one.
Cricut Tips
If you have a cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette, You can easily cut these words and writing lines out in vinyl. I chose to do this route to complete my board because I don’t like my handwriting, and I jump on any opportunity to use my beloved Cricut.
Measure your board to see how wide and long the wording can be.
- Insert text. Type your words. Unlock the proportions and size them appropriately.
- Insert a square shape. Unlock the proportions and resize until it looks like a thin line.
- Space the lines far enough apart so you can write large enough.
- Align everything to the center then Print.
- Weed the excess vinyl, apply transfer tape over your design and transfer to your board.
You’re done!
Creative Ways to Use the board
The “I Love You Because” Board can be used in a variety of ways. This board can be given to your spouse, your friend, your kids, or even yourself, because it’s necessary to encourage yourself sometimes too. You can put this board in the bathroom so your loved one sees it every morning. You can place it in their favorite place like a workout room, closet, or hobby space. I think any kid’s eyes would light up if they saw this in their lunch bag or bookbag. Most importantly, just have fun telling someone you love them.
I say I love you to all the time, every time I hang up the phone or leave someone’s presence. Yes, I even have those moments when I accidently tell the customer service rep or the UPS driver I Love You just because I’m so used to saying it (Sorry Mr. UPS Man, I don’t love you THAT way :). But I do realize it’s harder for other’s. Actually, that’s one of the reasons why I created this series, to give people creative ways to say I Love You. Why We Love
Why are we supposed to love each other, you ask? I know, there are some people that make it so HARD to love them. But we love because Christ first loved us. He loves us everyday, all day, through the good and bad. Let Christ be your example today and send some warm and fuzzies to someone else. I promise, that same spirit of love will make its way back to you.
To my craft tribe: there’s a song my church sings that applies to you “You’re easy to love!”
Until next time, stay crafty!
