I feel like Done all Fall decorating ideas I did a four part series on pumpkin decorating. I did fall decoration mesh. I’ve done a. Boho chic fall decorations. So this year I wanted to play around with Pompas.
Types of Pampas Grass Leaves
Now let’s talk about the type of pompous leaves you can get. I saw very small stems at the Dollar Tree for $1.25. They were about 6 to 8 inches long but would be good to make a small pampas floral arrangement.
Alternatively, you could go to the other extreme and get a large size. I saw beautiful large pampas leaves at Hobby lobby. They were about 36 inches long and very full. But they were also $20 a piece.
Ultimately, you just have to plan your project, pick a decor style, pick a size of arrangement and then buy the leaves that are appropriate for your choices.
Places to buy your pampas leaves
During the fall season, you can buy dried pampas leaves pretty much anywhere. I’ve seen them at Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Joann, Dollar Tree, Walmart, and Target just to name a few.
I personally bought my pampas leaves from Amazon because I needed a bulk amount and it was just cheaper to buy a large quantity bunch from Amazon then it was in the store.
It’s important to note that the stems that come from Amazon, at least the ones I bought and saw, Are single stem pampas leaves. The ones in the big box craft stores have multiple pampas leaves grouped together on one stem. So since I knew I wanted to space out my pampas in my own way in my floral arrangement, I chose to purchase single stems over groupings.
How to make a Pampas Floral Arrangement
Supplies: (most things I bought at the Dollar Tree. It should cost less than $20)
- 2 floral styrofoam cubes
- plastic container
- 1-2 bags of floral rocks
- 1 yard of burlap
- 20-30 Pampas leaves
- 2 types of ribbon
- fall floral picks of your choice (pumpkins, pine cones, fall flowers, etc.)
- hot glue gun
- scissors
Step one:
Wrap your plastic container in the burlap. overlap the burlap as you are wrapping it to create a pleating effect. Tuff all the excess burlap inside the container. Seal it with a bead of hot glue down the back of the container.
Step two:
Pour the floral rocks inside your plastic container. This gives it weight so it doesn’t fall over from the weight of the florals on top. Next, push the styrofoam into the top of the container. Cut the additional styrofoam to fit all the open holes. You want a tight perimeter.
Step three:
Now, start to add your pampas leaves to your floral arrangement. I like to start with one in the middle, and go around the outside perimeter. Then, just fill in the rest of the arrangement from there. Finally add any fall floral picks your chose and fill up any open spaces with them.
Step four:
Add your ribbon. I did a two layers of ribbon, with one larger than the other. It adds extra color and fun. Finish the ribbon with a simple bow and cut the ends of the bow at a diagonal to create cut edges. Secure the ribbon with a little hot glue in the back.
