9 Interesting Activities to Jumpstart Creativity in Every Area of Your Life

Creativity is So Important

I’m passionate about creativity and its many benefits.  Here’s some quick and easy methods to jumpstart creativity in your life.  I promise you it’s SOOOO worth it!

The Future is Creative

To stay progressive in this world, you have to constantly evolve and change and creativity is the best way to do just that.

Creativity is the catalyst for innovation. Without it, the world as we know it wouldn’t even exist. Someone, somewhere was creative enough to develop new technologies and techniques that have increased both our quality and quantity of life.

Jumpstart Creativity

But How?

The question, though, is how do you start to be creative? Does it start as a dream? Does a light bulb suddenly appear over your head? Or is there something specific you can do to jumpstart creativity and ideas?

Creativity is for All

Believe it or not, we are all creative. If you believe in God like I do, you know that He created us with His creative nature.  (Here’s a blog post I wrote about it)

While we may be creative in different ways, creativity is within us, just waiting to be uncovered.

Jumpstart Creativity in All Areas

When some people think of creative people they think of artists, musicians, crafters, actors, etc.  I want you to look at creativity from another perspective.

Creativity is just an attribute that can be applied to any area of thought.  Honestly I think creativity and crafting can change your life (Read more about that). You can be creative at work, creative doing your schoolwork, creative parenting, creative with your finances, creative dating, the list goes on and on.

Once you have the principles of how to tap into your creativity, it will be a powerful asset in every area of your life.

Find what works for you

First, there’s no perfect formula to get your creative juices flowing.  I’m sorry to tell you, but there’s no magic wand or step by step process you can implement to magically become creative.

Everyone has different rituals and routines to ignite their creativity, so you just have to keep going until you find out what works for you.

Creativity is like a muscle.  You have to keep working on it to bulk up and grow.

Activities to Jumpstart Creativity

To get you on the path to creativity, let’s go through 7 activities to get those creative juices going.

#1 Create a list of 100.

Make a list of 100 ideas and thoughts. They don’t have to be connected, but simply write out 100 ideas that come to mind in a single sitting.

This may seem daunting, but the purpose is to generate uncensored and unfiltered thoughts that can be used as a foundation for a bigger idea. You can always filter the ideas later on, so focus on quantity, not quality at first.

#2 Stimulate all the senses.

Try something different that involves every sensory of the body. For example, go to a wine tasting, art museum, concert or even a masseuse.

A museum in my city offers silent parties where you listen to your choice of music on headphones while looking at art and enjoying a chef’s tasting menu.  Igniting that many senses at one time will either get your creativity flowing or make you go crazy.  Either sounds like a wild night, right?  By exploring your senses, you just might discover a fresh idea by stimulating your body and mind with new things.

#3 Surround yourself with positive, inspiring words.

Stories, positive affirmations, and motivational quotes are always great starting points to tap into your creativity.

You just might be inspired to look within after reading the inspirational stories or thoughts of others. Follow me on Instagram.  I share inspirational quotes about creativity all the time.  Come join the creative fun with me.

#4 Go for a country drive.

You may be able to think clearer when you’re alone in the car. Turn off the stereo and tune into your own thoughts circulating in your head.

There are plenty of creative ideas already within your mind; you just have to clear out the noise of life and become more aware of them!

#5 Try the color yellow.

This may sound strange, but psychologists believe that the color yellow inspires creativity. Architecture firms have a tendency to paint their walls yellow.

Also, yellow is a color of happiness, fun and smiles.  Maybe it will spark childlike creativity.

#6 Do random Word Play.

Try to stretch your brainwaves with random word play.  See how many sentences you can write that have exactly five words each.  It will make you think outside the box.

For example,

  • Today is a good day.
  • Make time for some creativity.
  • Love like Christ loves you.
  • It’s not as easy as it looks.

Even word games like Wordle or Words with friends will help move that brain of yours.

#7 Interview others.

There are plenty of people around the world who love to talk, so get them talking! Ask them questions and allow their responses to guide your thoughts and ideas. You just may come up with a unique and creative solution by using the brainpower of others.

#8 Play a child’s game.

Children has such authentic creativity.  They don’t have as many hang ups or distractions as adults, making them more in tune with creativity and fun.  Tapping into your inner child may unlock some fun thinking.

Play a game of chase with a family member.  Jump rope outside, draw on the concrete with chalk, play Simon Says.  Just be a kid for a minute and have childlike creativity.

#9 Take a break.

If you’re under stress or pressure, it’s time to relax. After all, our minds need a break! Your relaxation routine doesn’t have to be extravagant; it can be as simple as playing a Sudoku puzzle or going for a 15-minute walk.

By refreshing your body and mind, you will actually return more creative than ever.

Find Your Own Creative Journey

Everyone is unique, so you may have a different way to spark your creativity. That’s okay! You can use these nine creativity boosting activities as a guide to help you uncover unique solutions to ordinary problems.

Ultimately, Just do it. Take the next step in your creative journey. It doesn’t hurt to try.

Until Next Time…Stay Crafty!
