…Because Creativity is Important

I get asked all the time, “Why do you do this?” In essence, they are asking me why I blog, why I run a creative business, why I craft, why I come up with projects and recipes for others. And my simple answer is…Because Creativity is Important!

Why is Creativity important?

The power of creativity is a priceless virtue. In many, it’s an untapped well of possibilities. So I dedicate my time and efforts to helping people turn on the spout and let the creative juices flow.

If you don’t learn anything else from me, I hope you remember these two things:

  1. Creativity is important and is worth the effort to cultivate.
  2. You have creativity in you, even if you can’t see it.

What does it mean to be creative?

The text book definition of creativity is, “the ability to transcend traditional ideas, rules, patterns, relationships, or the like, and to create meaningful new ideas, forms, methods, interpretations,” per Dictionary.com.

You don’t have to be Van Gogh and paint a masterpiece to consider yourself creative. Anytime you create a different outfit combo, find a new route to work, identify a better way to do something at work, or tell a new joke, you are being creative. No matter how small or large you think your creative contribution might be, it’s important and the world needs it.

You Were Born with Creativity!

Every single person was born with some type of creativity. Yes, that includes you. Let me break this down for you. God created each of us with such individually unique qualities and personalities. He created the world, every individual animal and element all with specific purposes. That takes an amazingly creative being to do that. I’m in awe of God’s handiwork regularly.

So just think about it, since we were created by a creative God, and the Bible tells us that we were created in HIS image (Genesis 1:27), than that DNA of God’s creativity runs through our veins. That’s pretty awesome to me! (I talk in detail about how we were CALLED to be creativity in this BLOG).

Creativity can change your life

Here’s a blog I wrote about 9 ways crafting can change your life, but my greatest examples of why creativity is important are examples of how it has enhanced my own life. Here’s just a few ways creativity has been a benefit in my life:

  • Serves as an outlet for my feeling through journaling, drawing, or scrapbooking.
  • Crafting and creating things have been a way to generate revenue many times throughout my life. It can be a great side hustle.
  • I was able to write a book because I got quiet and challenged myself to create.
  • Crafting is a form of stress-relief. Give me some colored pencils and a coloring book and I will forget the issues of the day. Everyone needs a hobby.
  • Creativity gives me hope. The world is no longer just black and white. Knowing that there are other creative options out there opens up a world of possibilities.
  • And the list goes on…

You could have some of these same results by tapping in your creativity!

Your Creativity is Important to Me!

Going back to my “Why”, I blog because your creativity is important to me. Every DIY I film and outline, Every craft project I post, Every recipe I create is all to encourage you to live your BEST Creative Life.

I have a friend that recently started a jewelry business because I encouraged her to make a bracelet once. I did a Christmas craft with a group of ladies. One of the ladies went home and made more for each of her daughters. She said it’s a yearly tradition for her now. There were several teenagers that learned how to bake by spending time with me in my bakery years ago. That birthed a whole new generation of bakers. If you can’t tell, I’m passionate about creativity. It’s so important in all our lives. The world needs what your mind can create.

Happy New Year, Angie. That’s a nice breakdown of creativity, that I relate to and fully appreciate, given that I’m a creative myself, in that I write books (fiction and nonfiction). I love to get in the flow and write.

Interestingly, I haven’t dabbled in crafts since… a long time ago, but recently felt the urge to visit a craft store and this post has inspired me further. Thanks and cheers:)
